Project summary

In this San Francisco condo renovation, we converted a bland unit into a warm and inviting family home. The clients requested a space to host family and friends as well as a private retreat to retire to. We reconfigured the floor plan and added custom built-ins to maximize seating and storage for this growing family. Industrious materials in simple shapes were used to incorporate both his modern aesthetic and her rustic style.

Brief

Turn a generic condo into a home that can host, rest, and grow with a young family.

The clients needed shared space for family and friends and quieter zones to unwind. The design had to honor two sensibilities: a cleaner modern line and a warmer, more rustic material feeling.

Residential bedroom

Custom built-ins transformed this unused space into a cozy reading nook

Custom Window Seat

Design Moves

Reconfigure the plan and invest in built-ins for seating, storage, and clarity.

We reworked the floor plan to support how the family actually lives day to day, then layered in custom built-ins to maximize seating and storage without clutter. Industrious materials in simple shapes helped bridge modern and rustic tastes in a single coherent language.

Outcome

The home reads as inviting, practical, and true to both partners.

Urban + Farmhouse shows how structural planning and tailored millwork can make a compact unit feel generous. The finished interior supports gathering and retreat while staying warm, durable, and easy to live in.

Outcome

Urban + Farmhouse balances hospitality and privacy for a growing family, using reconfiguration and built-ins to make a San Francisco condo feel grounded and full of character.
